Rubella is also called as German measles which occur due to the virus named as “Rubella”. This name is derived from Latin form which means “little red “.And it is also known by its secondary name “German measles” that was given by German doctor who discovered it for the first time. Although this disease is very mild but it can affect the health of unborn babies due to which vaccines have been developed to prevent this infection. The symptom of this disease may last for three days which is marked in the form of red skin rashes.
After this infection there takes place an incubation which can almost last for the 3 weeks but is not same as other infections as it is even contagious in incubation period and even if the rashes vanish, the virus may affect the other person. This virus even multiply in the respiratory system like nose, throat and it takes the help of mucus or salvia to spread in other body parts. It can also occur through the infected tissue. The most complicated problem is when it occurs from mother to her unborn baby.
First symptom of this infection is rashes on your face which slowly affects the entire body. After three days, these rashes will start disappearing from the face. Some other common symptoms of this infection are:
- Temperature.
- Conjunctivitis.
- Swollen lymph nodes.
- Stuffy nose.
- Join pain.
- Mild headache.
Generally these symptoms are not observed and disappear easily. However adults are more affected than children through these symptoms.
Rubella treatment with antivirus is worthless as the virus which causes this infection can only treat its symptoms. So, it is recommended to:
- Drink lots of liquids and take rest.
- You can use paracetamol to get relief from pain and fever but avoid using aspirin. According to latest studies a link has been drawn between Reye’s syndrome, viral infection and aspirin.
- Antibiotics like hyper-immune globulin can be used by infected pregnant women that deals with virus but it does not affect the unborn child.
So, if you are facing any complication, you may consult a doctor for best results.
