Natural Remedies for Curing Head Lice
Being a parent of child between 3-10 yrs you might have to deal with head lice. Normally preschoolers or elementary school aged children have this problem. This is due to the fact that children stay quite close to each other while spending time in schools or at day cares.
Whenever parents see that their child is affected with head lice, they tend to rush to the local drug stores and pick anti-lice drugs and sprays. These include head lice combs, head sprays etc. most often these contain chemicals that do more harm than good. As a result this may increase the parent’s problems rather than lessen it. The good news is that there a number of anti-lice home or natural remedies that can successfully treat head-lice without any side effects.
The most common home remedy for killing head lice is by using vinegar. Vinegar is a common item found in most houses. Saturate your child’s hair with vinegar and leave it for at least an hour. For preventing messing up, try using shower caps or something similar. Avoid using plastic bags when treating with vinegar as it can cause harm to your child. After leaving vinegar for at least an hour wash it out gently. Reports suggest that vinegar kills head lice within 3-4 days.
On a similar note many parents are recommended for using tea tree oil for treating head lice. Tea tree oil is applied in small amounts on the child’s hair. However, many parents adopt a different approach in using tea tree oil. They mix fifteen drops of tea tree oil in the shampoo bottle and shake it well to mix the oil with the shampoo. The shampoo bottle must not be full in order to get the oil mixed evenly when being shacked. Such a shampoo and oil mixture should be used in daily basis for a period of 5-7 days.
Another good natural remedy for treating head lice are mayonnaise. To use these you need to walk towards your refrigerator and apply it evenly over your child’s hair. As in the case of vinegar, consider using a shower cap rather than other materials which can cause suffocation. Leave mayonnaise application for at least an hour and then wash it out gently. The good thing about this approach is that it all types of head lice including eggs and adults as well.
The last remedy being suggested is certainly time consuming. It involves removing the lice manually using combs, tweezers and a flashlight. However this technique is also used even after using vinegar, tea tree oil and mayonnaise for removing the dead ones and eggs leftovers. One must remember to remove the head lice manually when your child’s hair is wet as it makes the job hassle free.
These remedies provide easy and secure way for treating your child’s head lice. The good thing about these remedies is that they can also be used in case you suspect that your child is having some symptoms of head lice. This just eliminates the risk of exposing your child to harmful chemicals that available as over-the-counter medications.
